North Wind Bangui
Bay Project which is commonly known as the “Bangui Windmills” has been
progressively gaining popularity among travelers to the Philippines. The twenty
(20) giant wind turbines standing steadily at Bangui Bay serve not only as
electric power generators but also as a tourist attraction. Ilocos Norte should
be proud of this awesome scientific creation!

Bangui Windmills
are situated in Bangui Bay, Ilocos Norte and just on-shore facing the South
China Sea. This is a technical and scientific project by the NorthWind
Development Corporation to naturally generate electricity for Ilocos Norte.
Thus, it doesn’t only play an important role for the Ilocanos but also in our
ecosystem as it helps reduce the greenhouse gases that cause global warming.
According
to my research, these 20 giant windmills which are 6-meter in diameter base are
capable of generating electricity up to a maximum capacity of 1.65MW, totaling
to 24.75MW. Electricity produced by the wind mills will be sold to Ilocos Norte
Electric Cooperative (INEC) under a 21-year Electricity Sales Agreement (ESA)
at PhP 4.43/kWh. The expected useful life of the equipment is 21 years.
FYI. This
project is the first wind farm in the country and considered to be the biggest
in Southeast Asia
Going to Bangui
Windmills is kind of difficult because of the gravel road with a downward slope
you need to take on. But I’m telling you once you see the windmills up close,
it’s all worth it!
This project has
not only become prominent to the scientific community but also to all travelers
like me. Definitely, it has an amazing
view for photography that’s why MJ de Leon and I wouldn’t miss a destination
like this.
Proud Gigantic Windmills
The windmills convert the kinetic energy into electricity by means of vanes called rotating sails.
