Travel to The City of Vigan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines
Be relatively
free from traffic and toxics of the mainland!
Then travel across the northern part of the Philippines and experience
one of the countries indigenous cultures. Also, get the chance to explore the
wonders of our history through stoned houses and antiques. Introducing The City
of Vigan that sets around a native architectural place that I know you’ll be
amazed of!
Vigan comes from Hokkien Chinese name “Bee
Gan” which means “Beautiful Shore”. It is one of the unique places in the
country where you can experience Philippine History, dating back to the 16th Century. It is located in Northern
Luzon and also the capital of the Province of Ilocos Sur. The houses,
establishments, architecture and the lifestyle of the people living there made
this destination a unique place to travel.
My father was born in Narvacan, Ilocos Sur
that is just few minutes travel to Vigan. That is the reason Vigan has a
special place in my heart. The first time I went there was when I was 10 years
old but looking at the city 14 years after, made not so much difference except
only of the new establishments like hotels and restaurants. But the
architectures of the place are still put up in an ancient way to preserve the
Spanish Colonial vibe that the city is known for. Very cool!
What I love the most in Vigan are the cobbled street,
antique displays and the kalesa ride which made the city more compelling than
any place in the country. Though we have a lot of extensive surviving
Philippine historic cities, Vigan for me is at the top of my list.
