Here’s a different fictional horror film injected with medical instigation - World War Z by Marc Forster. The story is about how everything goes to hell during zombie apocalypse based on Max Brook’s novel. And, it is certainly a bloodcurdling movie that could make your minds go nuts and crazy! The film stars Brad Pitts who gave an unruffled yet intensifying portrayal in the movie.
I watched the movie last week in 3-D with no idea what to expect. The first 20 minutes of the film are full packed of exhilarating sequence of events. It started with an explosion when people were going hysterical and running insanely around the city. Watching it made my palms sweat! However as the movie continued it became indistinct to me whether those crazy people are infected with a psychosomatic disease or are they zombies? It is as confusing as whether the movie is really a horror film or a suspense action movie. Well, I’m not sure what Marc Forster wants to convey but if his purpose is to stimulate people with terrifying series of actions, I bet he succeed.
As expected, Brad Pitt played an effective portrayal as Gerry Lane who was a retired U.N. employee. But for the other casts, they failed to develop their roles in the movie because the story focused more on the adventure of finding the solution to stop the deadly plague rather than storytelling about love and family. Hence, the movie did not really invest so much to its characters that is why it has less drama in it. So, if I have to compare World War Z from other horror movies like The Walking Dead and The American Zombie, the movie might fell short in story wise.
On the other hand, the visual and sound effects are very good. Watching World War Z in 3-D feels like I’m in a Red Alert or Warcraft computer game. Awesome! For sure, action movie addicts will be pleased watching it.
The ending might be a little bit unsatisfactory for me because it left me hanging with questions. But that is also great about the movie because it stirs up the minds of the viewers. Some people like movies which create different conclusions because it is a confirmation that the story has touch them one way or another. An effective movie knows how to affect the viewers' attention and, World War Z does it to me.
Definitely, I find the movie worth watching. It gives a different twist on zombie movies because it incorporates medical research and development that is not common to most horror films. Also, political slant and military insurgences are involved in the story. In short, World War Z has integrated a lot of factors which made it very compelling. Kudos!
My movie rating is 7.5/10.
Movie soars in theatres starting June 19, 2013.
