OVER THE EDGE with BOYCE AVENUE

Boyce Avenue Band (From Left Fabian, Alejandro and Daniel)

An American alternative rock band captivated my heart! The YouTube sensation, Boyce Avenue really made a charismatic appeal to most acoustic lovers like me.  They are known for their amazing covers of popular songs with a total of over 100 million views on YouTube. All I can say to them is “good job!” 'cause not all aspiring musicians found fame by just video-sharing covered songs via social sites. But who will not notice them? With their talents and Alejandro’s (Vocalist) mesmerizing voice, no doubt they deserve recognition.

Boyce Avenue is composed of three Manzano brothers from Florida namely Daniel, Alejandro and Fabian. According to them, the band is named after a combination of two streets the brothers lived on as children. Older brother and the bass guitarist, Daniel was a graduate from Harvard Law School while Alejandro (lead vocalist) and Fabian (guitarist/backing vocals) finished college at University of Florida.  But their passion in Music drove them to pursue a different career from what they studied. It can be perceived by others as a gamble but who cares. Their decisions to follow their dreams eventually lead them to an enormous success.

The band began posting videos of original music and covers of popular song on YouTube in 2007. Since then they were able to build a strong fan base which carried them to fame. Essentially, most of those fans are Filipinos. Thus, it only shows that we Pinoys are fun of acoustic music and we support undeniable talents.

I saw the band in person last 2010 when they had a mini-concert held at SM North-wing Cebu. But even before that, I was already an avid follower of them on YouTube. Their strong acoustic music and melodic rock sound really allured my attention. After the show and autograph signing, they really took time to shake hands with all their fans who attended the show. It gives me an idea that this band is warm-hearted and really grateful to Filipinos who undyingly support their comings and goings as a band.

Boyce Avenue's acoustic version of "Dynamite" by Taio Cruz. Notice that Alejandro was wearing a blue T-shirt with "I   Pinas" print.

Since 2011, the band started producing their CDs through their own independent recording label, 3 Peace Records. Singer-songwriter, Hannah Trigwell who is also another YouTube sensation signed with them in the label. And just this month (May 2013), the band announced that they are going to do a World Tour in fall. Well, I am hoping that they’ll be back here in the Philippines soon. So let's cross our fingers guys!

Manzano Brothers' music talents - know how to sing and play acoustic & bass guitar, piano, violin, beat box (Cajon), drums and percussion instruments.

My all time favorite song "Back for  good" by Take That band which was excellently covered by Boyce Avenue with over 5 millions views on YouTube.
