Sketch My Heart Out

“Life is like a sketch, we know that it is beautiful but it is not made perfect.” – JM Calderon

In a world that is full of wonderful things, it is significant to take a hold of everything we desire.  Thus, we have our own ways of keeping the memories at heart. Some people take pictures while some sketch the images of it. For some reason, I am fascinated by sketches because they are beautiful representation of images which are tinted in black & white. For me, anyone who vividly demonstrates image through sketching has found diverse purpose in the World of Art.

By definition, a sketch is a rapidly executed freehand drawing that is not usually intended as a finished work.  It is a drawing picture that serves a purpose – to graphically demonstrate an image, to record something you see or to create an art out of inspiration. And sketching is a special talent that only few are gifted of. So if someone sketches your image, you should really be grateful because it takes an utmost effort to draft your reflection.

According to Jared Natinga, an officemate who’s hobby is to sketch since he was five years old “A perfect sketch is by perception. It is not really about the image but it’s more on the emotion you were able to get across through sketching.” I agree with him because for me sketching shouldn’t be technical. A beautifully drawn sketch is based on the feelings it portrays.

What do I need to sketch? No experience is required when sketching. All you need are pencil, paper and the will to draw a certain image. Most sketch artists said that sketching is by mood and you can only complete it if you have focus and determination. It may look simple but the effort behind the art is beyond. Everyone can draw but only few know how to sketch.

Why do people sketch? It gives a different level of satisfaction. Through sketching they are able to demonstrate their feelings, sentiments or emotions about themselves or about something else. For some, they find it as a stress reliever. Regardless of the reason, they sketch because they sketch.

Nowadays when everything is digital and all pictures are colorful and clear, is sketching still significant? “Technology is not an issue when it comes to sketching,” Jared Natinga said. Sketch will always be significant depending on the person’s perspective. The beauty it magnifies is different from digital pictures. It is a classic demonstration where all processed images have started from.

We normally appreciate picture because of its saturation and sharpness. In our modern world where all photos can be edited with different filters, it’s hard to establish a standard measurement of a good picture. But in sketching, you can really tell which is good or bad because you have only two shades of color to combine (black & white). For me sketch is such a wonderful art that only talented artists can deliver.
