Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters – a fantasy adventure movie invites you to dive through the mighty
waters of the Atlantic Ocean and search for the magical Golden Fleece. Director Thor Freudenthal brought a new modern
twist on Greek Mythology. Personally, this second installment brought more
buoyancy and excitement than the first movie. And despite the film has a
different version from the original source material, it still has a great story
pacing that I’m sure you and your friends will enjoy!
When the first trailer of the movie released on the first quarter of 2013, spectators set high expectation that it would be as great if not more as the Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010). The moment the film surfaced in theatres, all the faithful fans of Percy Jackson novel of Rick Riordan are very excited to see how the sequel accustomed with what was in the book. Nonetheless, 20th Century Fox didn’t promise that this movie would be exactly the same detail as the book series or else what’s the point of watching it in big screen.
As someone who
grew up reading Greek mythology, it is dismaying to know that movie went off
track. But the good side about Percy
Jackson: See of Monsters is that it explicitly embodied Greek literature in
a contemporary way. It had a combination of action scene and funny bits that I
think made the movie more compelling from other myth adaptation movies.
The movie’s
leading actor, Logan Lerman delivered an exceptional portrayal as Percy Jackson,
the son of Poseidon. He may not have the typical demigod structure we’ve all
known like Hercules who has strong muscular physique, Percy is intelligent and
appealing which Logan definitely has. The 21 years old actor was also known for
playing as Charlie in the movie ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ that made him
won Best Drama Movie Actor in the Teen Choice Award 2012. Also his experience
as d’Artagnan in the movie ‘The Three Musketeers’ made him perfect for the role
as Percy Jackson.
Other casts in
the movie are Brandon Jackson (Grover), Alexandra Daddario (Annabeth), Leven
Rambin (Clarisse) and Jake Abel (Luke). And a new star - Douglas Smith who
played as Tyson (Percy’s Cyclops half-brother) has also delivered a funny and
convincing depiction in the movie. Director Thor Freudenthal made sure that all
casts will have good character development in the film. Hence, the movie was
full packed of strong characters which made it more persuasive to watch.
The movie
presented different underwater thrills which I think will make the viewers go
‘wow’. The cinematography and music are excellent. Certainly, it is a movie I recommend
everyone to watch!
My movie rating
is 7.6/10.
